Joy in the New Testament is more than an emotion. Joy [Greek word kharah] is Holy Spirit-given delight. Joy arises in believers from the God's redemptive acts and abiding presence in us as believers (Ref. X). reword? leave in?
Matthew 13:44 - "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field."
Matthew 25:21 - "His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.'"
Luke 2:10-11 - "And the angel said to them, 'Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.'" Check word for joy
Luke 15:5 - "And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing." leave in?
Jesus rejoices when he finds a lost sheep. We, too, should rejoice because we were once lost and Jesus has now "found" us.
Luke 15:7 - "Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance."
In heaven - Among the angels of God. Compare Luke 15:10. Heavenly beings are thus represented as rejoicing over those who repent on earth. Joy comes from abiding in Christ -- being "attached" to him and drawing nourishment from him on a daily basis in the same way that a branch and its fruit draw sustenance from the vine. Jesus himself is the vine (John 15:1). does this verse belong here?

As believers in Christ, we should consider it joy when we encounter and go through trials because those trials strengthen our faith and produce endurance.
